Description
The ASTM B117 test (Salt Corrosion Test Salt Spray Chamber ASTM B117) is a common corrosion test in production, daily use, designed to provide information on the corrosion resistance of metals and coated metals.
The ASTM B117 test standard is also approved for use by DoD agencies.
Pass the ASTM B117 salt spray test to determine the suitability of coatings, paints and metals for corrosion or exposure to marine environments by visual inspection after testing for corrosion.

ASTM B117 Test Procedure
●Salt Spray Test Chamber to compare the wear resistance of various metals or finishes,
●Determine wear trends when metal or coated surfaces are scratched (performed with ASTM B117 + ASTM D1654),
●Measurement of coating adhesion and corrosion creep (performed with ASTM B117 + ASTM D3359),
●Used to best predict corrosion resistance in marine environments (humidity, temperature, salt spray).
●ASTM B117 does not specify exposure times, the most popular times are:
✔96 hours exposure
✔240 hours exposure
✔600 hours exposure
